on CHAN 2024.
The much-anticipated 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) draws have been finalised and have placed Nigeria’s home-based Super Eagles into Group D. The tournament, initially scheduled for February 2025, has been postponed to August, in order to allow the host nations of Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda to finalise infrastructure preparations.
The draw, conducted on January 15, 2025, at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre in Nairobi, saw Nigeria being paired with defending champions Senegal, Sudan, and Congo in Group D.
The Super Eagles B, who missed the last two editions of the competition, will be keen to improve on their runner-up finish in 2018. However, Group D poses a challenging path for Nigeria, with the reigning champions Senegal being the favourites to take the top spot. Senegal had defeated Algeria to claim their inaugural CHAN title in 2022.
Sudan, who have a strong track record in the CHAN tournament with two third-place finishes in 2011 and 2018, as well as Congo, who have twice reached the quarterfinals, will also provide tough competition for the Super Eagles.
Only the top two teams from each group will advance to the knockout stage, making it a daunting task for Nigeria to progress. Nevertheless, the team will certainly be determined to give their best performance and overcome the challenging opponents.
This is a major comeback for the Super Eagles B, returning to the CHAN tournament after missing the last two editions. The team will be eager to showcase their skills and represent Nigeria on an international platform.
As we eagerly await the CHAN 2024 tournament, it is certain that Group D will provide some exciting and intense matches, with Nigeria facing off against some tough opponents. Fans will be hoping for a strong performance from the Super Eagles B and are eagerly anticipating their first match in the group stage.
