14 Senegalese dancers have been selected to receive scholarships for studying in Europe. After a week-long training at the Blaise Senghor Cultural Center, these dancers will have the opportunity to travel to Europe for a three-year diploma program that will open doors for them to join international dance companies. This initiative, with a total budget of 131 million CFA francs, is a collaboration between the Italian Cultural Institute of Dakar and EurAsia, aimed at helping young Senegalese dancers professionalize their art.The funding for this program not only offers a chance for these young dancers to gain international recognition, but it also allows for a sharing of experiences. Roy, the first Senegalese to receive the scholarship, directed the training at the Blaise Senghor Cultural Center from July 4th to 8th. During the ceremony to mark the end of the week-long training, Roy emphasized the impact that receiving his scholarship had on his dance techniques, both classical and traditional. He expressed his hope that he could pass on this knowledge to the 14 selected dancers.Serena Cinquegrana, director of the Italian Cultural Institute of Dakar, also shared her excitement about this collaboration. With so many talented dancers in Senegal, this program offers them a chance to secure their futures by providing them with the skills necessary to join prestigious dance companies. She also mentioned that their goal is to have a total of 14 scholarship recipients.It is worth noting that the Italian Cultural Institute supports the fourth edition of the EurAsia Auditions On Tour in Senegal, which took place in Dakar from July 4th to 8th, 2023. The goal of this event is to train and select young dancers, aged 17 to 29 years old, for scholarships to European dance academies. The international network of EurAsia Dance Project, led by Stefano Fardelli, has over 25 partners in 20 countries around the world, spanning across Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Africa, the Pacific, and Central America. This network has become one of the largest in the dance community, connecting all five continents.In collaboration with dancer Roy Ilagou, winner of EurAsia in 2019 and currently a student at the Academy of Dance in Milan, Stefano Fardelli offered a masterclass in contemporary dance at the Blaise Senghor Cultural Center in Dakar from July 4th to 8th (2pm-6pm). The auditions took place on Saturday, July 8th at 5:30pm. All the successful candidates will receive an EurAsia scholarship ranging from 25% to 100% for their three-year professional training and will become part of the network as EurAsia students initially, and as professional dancers after graduation. The EurAsia Auditions On Tour in Senegal is organized by EurAsia Dance Project International Network, led by Stefano Fardelli, in partnership with the M’Bosse Dance Company of Kaolack, an EurAsia partner, with the support of the Italian Embassy and the Italian Cultural Institute in Dakar, Senegal, in collaboration with the Blaise Senghor Cultural Center.In conclusion, this initiative is an amazing opportunity for young Senegalese dancers to enhance their skills and reach new heights by joining international dance companies.
