On Monday, December 4, 2023, a meeting of exchange and sharing was held between the General Delegation for the Pilgrimage and private tour operators at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Senegalese Abroad, chaired by Minister Ismaïla Madior FALL. This meeting provided an opportunity for the stakeholders to discuss the upcoming 2024 edition of the pilgrimage to Mecca. During the discussions, the delegate general outlined the successes and challenges of the previous year’s edition, highlighting difficulties in Mouna and Arafat, issues with food provision, and recorded deaths, some caused by the age of the victims or pre-existing illnesses.Dr. Sarr also discussed the new arrangements put in place by the Saudi Arabian authorities, such as the 50-50 rule between the Saudi airline and the national carrier, Air Senegal. He also shed light on the organization of tour operators into groups, with an average of 550 pilgrims per group. This meeting marks the start of the registration process for those interested in making the pilgrimage.The meeting with the private tour operators is an important step towards a successful 2024 pilgrimage.
