The U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC), the African Development Bank (AfDB), and the International Finance Corporation (IFC) have announced a significant financing package of $45 million for VaxSen, a subsidiary of the renowned Institut Pasteur de Dakar (IPD) in Senegal. The agreement, which was signed on December 13, 2024 in the presence of Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, highlights the country’s commitment to improving public health and enhancing access to vaccines.
This partnership underscores Senegal’s role as a leader in promoting common public health goals. The investment will strengthen vaccine production capacity, bolster local supply chains, and establish a robust network for vaccine distribution, aligning with the African Union’s Vision 2040 to produce 60% of the continent’s vaccine needs locally.
This landmark financing agreement is the culmination of a joint effort by key stakeholders. Among them is Senegal’s IPD, a well-respected African institution with a history of vaccine production and health innovation. Its subsidiary, VaxSen, is dedicated to the sustainable commercialization and distribution of vaccines produced by IPD. The AfDB, with a steadfast commitment to promoting regional development, is also a key contributor to this strategic partnership
