The Ministry of African Integration and Foreign Affairs expressed surprise at a Facebook post by the Ukrainian Embassy in Dakar, which included a propaganda video and a comment from the Ukrainian Ambassador supporting a terrorist attack in northern Mali. This attack, occurring between July 25 and 27, 2024, resulted in significant loss of life among the Malian Armed Forces.
Senegal, maintaining its neutral stance in the Russia-Ukraine conflict and advocating for peaceful resolution, cannot tolerate the dissemination of such media propaganda within its territory. Senegal also rejects terrorism in all forms and will not accept any actions or statements that support terrorism, especially when it destabilizes a neighboring country like Mali.
The Ministry reiterated Senegal’s strong condemnation of the terrorist attack in Mali, expressed solidarity with the Malian government and people, offered condolences to the victims’ families, and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
The Ukrainian Ambassador in Dakar was summoned to the Ministry and reminded of the obligations of discretion, restraint, and non-interference that should accompany his diplomatic mission.
The Ministry is pleased to report that the Ambassador has since removed the contentious video and publication. We thank the Ambassador for his respectful compliance with our request.
