On March 14th, Senegal took a significant step towards improving the quality of its healthcare system with the launch of its digital patient record system. This move, led by the Minister of Health and Social Action, Dr. Marie Kéhemesse Ngom Ndiaye, aims to bring the country in line with international standards for managing medical information. One of the key benefits of this new system is the consolidation of patient records, eliminating the need for multiple files for a single patient. It will also ensure the security and confidentiality of personal data, reduce waiting times in hospitals, allow patients to book appointments and receive notifications via SMS, and improve overall health research and data reliability. The implementation of this digital patient record system has been a gradual and careful process, starting with a pilot phase in six hospitals. Once the pilot phase is completed, it will be scaled up to all hospitals in the country. This initiative was first launched in June 2023, with the participation of all stakeholders and healthcare experts, highlighting the commitment of the Ministry of Health and Social Action towards modernization and improvement of the country’s healthcare system. In conclusion, the launch of the digital patient record system in Senegal is a significant step in improving the quality of healthcare and bringing the country in line with international standards. It is a testament to the government’s commitment to providing efficient and up-to-date healthcare services to its citizens
