A new government with President Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye at its head and Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko has sparked hope for the fishing and tourism industries in Mbour. These industries, which are the main sources of income for many in the area, have been struggling and it is hoped that the new government will bring about positive changes. The president had promised to prioritize these industries during his campaign rally in Mbour, and it is now timely for action to be taken as they are facing many challenges. The president of the Association for the Promotion and Responsibility of Maritime Fishing in Senegal, Gaoussou Guèye, agrees with this approach but emphasizes the need for competent and honest individuals to be chosen to lead and implement these plans. One of the main threats to the fishing industry, according to Gaoussou Guèye, is the development of fishmeal factories. The use of fish as feed for these factories means that the most vulnerable members of society, who rely on fish for food, will suffer. He also encourages the new government to review and audit the existing fishing agreements with other countries to ensure transparency and fair benefits for Senegal. In the tourism sector, stakeholders are ready to contribute to its revival and are waiting for a clear plan of action from the new government. They hope for the expansion of the tourism zone in Pointe Sarène and the revitalization of the Saly tourist station. They also encourage the government to support and promote local entrepreneurs in the tourism sector.Overall, the changes promised by the new government are welcomed by these industries, and they look forward to working together with the government to bring back prosperity to the fishing and tourism sectors in Mbour
