Groundbreaking Election Largely Won By Sonko
Senegalese citizens turned out in large numbers to vote in an ostensible test for the new government in early legislative elections. The ballots determined 165 representatives for the National Assembly.
The Pastef list, led by Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, has emerged as the clear winner, according to partial and provisional results released by polling stations in Senegal and abroad.
In most of the results of the election, the governing party leader is followed by the coalitions Sàmm Sa Kàddu and Takku Wallu Senegal, headed by Dakar’s mayor Barthélémy Dias and former president Macky Sall, respectively.
The overwhelming victory for Sonko and his party is expected to shake up the country’s political landscape and establish a new balance of power within the National Assembly.
